Title
Cornflour vs Arrowroot
Question
Hi Rachael
I have been following your recommendations for getting rid of the "goo" my diet and it has worked wonders for me.
I would like to know if it is ok to use arrowroot to thicken sauces stews etc. Is cornflour the same as corn starch as I have been avoiding cornflour as well.
I would also like to know if there are any safe forms of potato or corn chips. I have used an organic plain corn chip in the past, but they are cooked in canola or sunflower oil.
Thanks for your advice
Kind regards
Susan
Answer
Hi Susan,
Pleased you are better.
I like to use organic stoneground wheat flour (bring to a paste with water, then add to dish to thicken). Cornflour sometimes can have starch in it. Organic Maize flour is a better option, and you can feel the difference between the two.
Arrowroot should be ok, as long again as that is all it is.
On the safe side, this is why I only use the wheat flour. However I am sure the odd time the other 2 options as mentioned above is what you need to look out for.
No potato chips that I am aware of use saturated fat without any goo. The odd time we get the sunflower oil one as a treat.
Otherwise you can make your own, hence why I am working on a recipe book.
However eventually a food company just may want to give a WHOO HOO option, so will work on that option too :)
Cheers
Rachel
